Amos Deason was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina, the son of Benjamin Deason, born 8 June, 1784 in Lancaster County, and Dorcas Hough, born 1790. They lived in Wild Cat Area on original Hough land. Amos married Eleanor Baskin, b. 4 July, 1810 in Lancaster County around 1829. Eleanor's great grandfather and his wife came to this country from Ireland in the 1700's. Amos's father died around 1789 and his mother died in 1790. Amos must have been very well established before he made his way south some tine in the 1840's. He originally settled in Lauderdale County, but eventually moved to Jones by 1850. He built one of the finest houses Ellisville had ever seen. It is said that it was modeled after Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. The front is octagonal, and although made of wood, the wood is scored to look like stone. Amos and his family lived there until his death, after which his daughter Sarah, who was the second wife of Isaac Anderson, lived there with her family. From that time until it was given to the DAR, Andersons lived in the Deason House.
