"The first Legislature of the State of Mississippi met in the town of Washington, October 6, 1817, and was in session at that place until October 10, when it adjourned to meet in Natchez, December 8, 1817.

It should be remembered that several counties frequently make up a Senatorial District, which explains the repetition of names. Senators from Jones County"
